A propulsive bass vibrates through “Nice,” the tasty third single from Niamh Regan’s forthcoming Come as You Are album, with the instrumental landscape expanding while the song unfolds. “I’m too nice,” Regan murmurs near the start, a sonic hiccup accentuating her admission that she’d do anything twice before speaking up. It’s a lament those of us who prefer politeness and pleasantries should identify with, I think. We bite our tongues and go along just to get along.
The comments, demands and requests coming her way aren’t all from other people: “You got so thin/I’m reading what you did/Cause it’s everywhere/You’re on top of the mountain/You’re at the top of your game.” Truth is, much of it comes from within ourselves. Small wonder that she asks, “Can you help me/get out of my way?”
The song was written by Regan and Tommy McLaughlin, who produced; McLaughlin handles the drums, guitars, bass, while Michael Keeney plays the keys.
