First Impressions: “care to care” by Marysia Osu (featuring Plumm)

My mind is moving somewhat slow today, its chutes partially clogged and ladders all but blocked due to a lack of sleep that stretches back weeks. Despite the occasional mental malfunctions, however, I’m feeling upbeat thanks to the latest single from Poland-born, London-based harpist Marysia Osu, whose harp, beats & dreams LP is slated for release in mid-October.

The meditative “care to care” features the ethereal vocals of fellow Levitation Orchestra member Plumm. It’s a peaceful outing that celebrates something many of us, including me, often forget about: self-care. We stay up late, rise early and muddle through our days only to do it again and again and again.

The accompanying video, filmed and edited by Louise Boer (aka Lou Zon), conjures a Super 8 home movie from long ago, its colors at once overdone and washed out. It’s like watching a dream unwind before your eyes.

The press release quotes Osu as saying, “Essentially, the message of ‘care to care’ is to handle your responsibilities with care, and then take the time to enjoy yourself. Self-care is a two-way road: overworking or overindulging won’t lead to personal fulfillment. Everyone needs to find their own care balance and this is important for individual well-being, and as part of a community: caring for yourself raises your ability to care for others. For me, quality time with friends and family is a very important part of self-care, and I’m still learning to prioritize it over work. Plumm and I have been friends for over 10 years, so I’m very happy that we made this song together.”

I look forward to the hearing the album in full.
