Five years ago, Diane and I saw #CourtneyMarieAndrews in concert at at a now-defunct club in South Philly called the Boot & Saddle. There, on a stage that didn’t have a proper exit, Courtney and her crack band integrated country, rock, folk, R&B and gospel into a sonic whole that echoed both the ages and the soul. I wrote about it on my blog, of course - to read my review, click on the link in my bio. (FYI, the “Stax-like song” that blew us away is the still-unreleased “Warning Sign.” I still kick myself for not recording it.) #concert #concertmemories #livemusicisbetter
Here’s the cover of #Newsweek from March 23, 1970. Seven years ago, I featured it, #breakfastattiffanys (one of my favorite films), the Amazon series #GoodGirlsRevolt and the March 1970 pop charts in a #blogpost (available via the link in my bio).
Thinking of #NanciGriffith tonight. This show would have been the third or fourth time I saw her - always wonderful in concert. (Guy Clark was ill so didn’t appear, but #IrisDeMent played a great opening set.) #concertmemories #folkabilly #folk
On this day in 1966, Jan Smithers - aka Bailey Quarters on #WKRPinCincinnati, appeared on the cover of #Newsweek magazine in an issue devoted to the era’s teenagers. (They were confounding the era’s adults!) She was just another kid on the beach at the time. A few years back, I flipped through the pages and shared what I found - the link in my bio leads to that blog post. #longagoandfaraway #babyboom #babyboomers
Today’s NYA Times-Contrarian states the obvious. #neilyoung #neilyoungarchives #ticketmaster
Today’s companion for the road: #ShawnColvin’s Cover Girl. #classicalbum #folk #folkrock #singersongwriter
#PennStateProud (circa 1987).
No new #blogpost from me today. Instead, if you click on the link in my bio, you’ll be treated to a recap of #1992 that I put together in early 2017. It was a great year - Diane and I took our delayed honeymoon in California and, before and after those two weeks, saw a few memorable concerts (including #NeilYoung, #10000Maniacs and #ShawnColvin). I also share my Top 5 albums for ‘92, though I’d likely swap one or two of those for one or two of the runners-up I mention. (The pic, by the way, is me on Fisherman’s Wharf.) #memories #daysthatusedtobe
